In 2007, June 24-29 near the village Maximikha on shore of the Lake Baikal, Buryatia, the Institute of Atmospheric Optics of the Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences (SB RAS) will organize
XIV International Symposium "Atmospheric and Ocean Optics. Atmospheric Physics".
The Symposium is a traditional meeting of atmospheric and ocean optics and atmospheric physics community, which has a long history as a successor of the symposiums on Laser Propagation in Atmosphere and Laser Remote Sensing of Atmosphere beginning with the early seventies and organizing by academician Vladimir Zuev.
Symposium Chairs
Gelii A. Zherebtsov
Gennadii G. Matvienko
Organizing Institutions
Institute of Atmospheric Optics SB RAS, Tomsk
Institute of Solar-Terrestrial Physics SB RAS, Irkutsk
Physical Problems Department at the Presidium of Buryat Scientific Center SB RAS, Ulan-Ude
East Siberian State Technological University, Ulan-Ude
The Symposium is held in cooperation with the International Society for Optical Engineering and Optical Society of America.
It is planned to organize four conferences (A, B, C, D) in frame of the Symposium.

Now the population of Ulan-Ude is about 400 thousands inhabitants; there are 5 universities, Buryat Scientific Center SB RAS, theatres, museums, art galleries in the city.
Lake Baikal is located in a deep tectonic hollow in the center of Asia at the height of 456 ü over the sea level and is surrounded by mountains. Lake Baikal is the deepest continental water reservoir on the Earth, the average depth is of 730 m, maximum depth is of 1637 ü, 1/5 of the world supply of the surface fresh water, luxuriant and varied vegetation and animals. In the end of June the weather is normally sunny and warm near the Lake Baikal, air temperature is of +24°C, water temperature is of +10°C.
Looking forward to seeing you among the participants of the Symposium!
